Oestra® vs Patches

How Oestra® Compares to Hormone Patches

Hormone patches are a common alternative to pills—but they still differ significantly from Oestra® in how consistently hormones are absorbed.

If you're currently using a hormone patch and considering a transition to Oestra®, it's important to understand that switching delivery methods is not always a one-to-one exchange. Even if the prescribed hormone dose appears similar on paper, your body may experience Oestra® differently because of how it is absorbed and utilized.

For most women, we recommend a gradual 2-week transition period when switching from hormone patches to Oestra®. Rather than stopping your patch immediately, continue using your current patch while beginning Oestra® and allow the two therapies to overlap for approximately two weeks. After that transition period, you can discontinue your patch and continue with Oestra® alone.

This gradual transition helps support more stable hormone levels and may reduce the likelihood of symptoms that can occur when changing hormone delivery methods.

How Patches Work

Patches deliver hormones through the skin, but absorption can vary based on:

  • Skin thickness

  • Placement location

  • Sweat, heat, or movement

  • Individual differences like intolerance to adhesive

This variability can lead to:

  • Inconsistent hormone levels

  • Fluctuating symptom control

How Oestra® Differs

Oestra® avoids these issues by:

  • Delivering hormones through the vaginal wall

  • Using a highly vascular (blood-rich) absorption site

  • Providing steady, predictable delivery

Absorption Comparison

  • Oestra®: ~80% absorption

  • Patches: ~10–30% absorption

Why This Matters

With Oestra®, many women experience:

  • More consistent symptom relief

  • Fewer hormonal ups and downs

  • Greater overall effectiveness

Bottom Line

While patches are convenient, Oestra® offers more reliable absorption and stability, making it a more efficient option for full-body hormone support.

Because of this, many women find that Oestra® feels like a meaningful step up in hormone support, even when transitioning from an existing patch regimen.

It's also normal for your body to need a brief adjustment period as it adapts to a new delivery method. Temporary fluctuations in symptoms can occur during the transition and do not necessarily mean that treatment is not working.

With consistency, patience, and proper guidance, most women find that the transition to Oestra® is smooth and that they benefit from its reliable absorption and hormone support.
