MCAS or Histamine Flares

Short‑term histamine flares can look like flushing, palpitations, rashes, insomnia, or “flu‑y” aches. Oestra® contains progesterone, a natural mast cell stabilizer - symptoms usually settle within 7–10 days with support.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Why it happens

  • Estradiol can transiently stimulate mast cells.

  • If progesterone has been low for years, sensitivity can be higher at re‑start.

  • Low DAO or gut/gallbladder issues may amplify symptoms.

What to do

  • Consider OTC antihistamine every 12 hours for 7–10 days.

  • DAO enzymes (up to 4×/day) with meals.

  • Apply Oestra® in the morning to reduce nighttime insomnia.

  • Follow low‑histamine diet; limit processed/fermented foods and alcohol.

  • Quercetin may help lower histamine and soothe inflammation.

  • Discuss a dose adjustment with the clinical team if advised.

Reassurance These flares/surges are temporary - most calm in a week or so as hormones rebalance.
