Breast Tenderness on Oestra®: Why It Happens and How to Find Relief

Ease discomfort with iodine, selenium, and simple self-care while your body adjusts to hormone balance.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Mild breast or nipple tenderness is one of the most common and temporary changes women notice when beginning Oestra® or adjusting their hormone therapy. You may also experience a subtle feeling of fullness or swelling in the breasts during the first few weeks.

This sensitivity is typically short-lived and reflects your body’s natural response to rebalancing hormone levels — especially as estrogen and progesterone begin supporting breast and uterine tissue again.

Why It Happens

When hormones shift, breast tissue can become more active and responsive. This is a normal part of your body adjusting to restored hormone levels. In many cases, it can also signal a need for extra iodine — a trace mineral that supports both thyroid and breast health.

Ways to Support Your Body

You can ease tenderness and promote balance with simple, evidence-based supports:

  • Iodine: Consider taking Lugol’s 2% iodine, one drop (≈1000 mcg) daily or 3 times per week if you’ve been advised to use it conservatively.

  • Selenium: Add 100–200 mcg daily. This nutrient helps the body process iodine efficiently and supports thyroid function.

  • Comfort care: A soft, supportive bra at night and a warm compress can help relieve soreness or pressure.

What to Expect

For most women, tenderness improves within 1–3 months as hormone levels stabilize and tissues adapt to the new balance. This is temporary and often a sign that your system is recalibrating.

If discomfort continues beyond that timeframe or becomes bothersome, we recommend reaching out to the Inner Balance clinical team for personalized guidance.

In summary:
Breast tenderness at the start of Oestra® is normal, manageable, and usually brief. With consistent use, proper nutrient support, and time, your body will settle into its new equilibrium — leaving you feeling balanced and at ease again. 💛
