Will I start bleeding again if I’m postmenopausal?
Yes potentially. Oestra® contains estradiol and progesterone which work on the uterine lining to regulate your period. When women go without progesterone for years, the uterine lining becomes very fragile and sheds easily when hormones are first started. This happens even if you haven’t had a period for awhile. Bleeding becomes light and infrequent after 3–6 months.
If you don’t want to bleed at all, please reach out to our experts and we will discuss your specific case and care.
Will I still cycle on Oestra®?
Yes, most likely. Oestra® hasn’t been shown to stop ovulation or work like birth control. It prevents estrogen dominance, so you can have very light and short periods on the cream. In addition, you may not spontaneously have a period.
Do I need to stop Oestra® to have a period?
Yes. By stopping Oestra®, you mimic the body's natural rhythm of a withdrawal bleed when hormone levels decline. We recommend stopping every 28 days. It is also not recommended to use Oestra® during a menstrual cycle since vaginal creams don’t absorb well at that time.
Should I apply the cream while I’m bleeding?
No. Oestra® won’t absorb. If you do NOT want a monthly cycle, you can use Oestra® continuously until your body triggers a bleed on its own. Depending on your age and dose, this may still happen.
My period is late—is that normal?
Yes. In the first 3–6 months, your cycle may be irregular as your body recalibrates. Spotting, early or late periods, or changes in flow are all expected. You can simply stop the cream every 28 days and let your body catch up.
Will I have withdrawal symptoms when I pause Oestra®?
You might. Some women experience headaches, insomnia, or a return of symptoms when pausing for a few days. These effects typically subside once the cream is resumed.
